Marvel's Spider-Man aired last month on Disney XD and it definitely surprised me! This series is a replacement of the previous series Ultimate Spider-Man, which ended in January of this year.
As a huge fan, who has been in love of the hero since childhood, I have witnessed so many reboots across the the board, that it has me thinking, "Has the Spider-Man franchise become low hanging fruit?" We can all agree that Spidey is a cash cow. Everyone wants him and everyone wants to see him. Although extremely popular, things just keep going wrong for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
One would become skeptical when a new Spider-Man comes out but being a hardcore fan, I hope for the best. Disney XD aired the new show with five episodes and they were enjoyable and captured young Peter Parker very well. Peter's love for science and math is highlighted in the show and he constantly uses it in his many battles. Marvel's Spider-Man picks up right after the death and Uncle Been and Peter being bit by the radioactive spider. He is in his makeshift suit facing thugs and the Vulture trying to steal Vibranium. The art seems similar too that of its predecessor, Ultimate Spider-Man, but the scenes are more vibrant. I also noticed Disney has pulled different material from different Spidey universes to put the show together. One example, Miles Morales (Black and Red Spider-Man) goes to the same school, Horizon High. Things are also different like, Doctor Otto Octavius is a young child prodigy teaching at Horizon High. However, different is good and I am totally enjoying. With each episode being 21-22 minutes long, the stories and adventures have a great build up and don't need long winded origin stories. If you have seen other animated versions of our young hero, then you know his villains. The villain for the first season is a familiar one but I wonder what other story arcs Disney plans to explore! Regardless, I am sold on the adventures Spidey has been on already! You can check out the first episode of Marvel's Spider-Man below!
Marvel's Spider-man airs on Disney XD, Saturday's at 7 AM EDT!
