Monster Hunter Stories (Demo Review)

Yesterday, the Monster Hunter Stories demo released! Although not a huge fan of the franchise, I am a fan. Also, I like different takes and approaches when it comes to cult classics. Before I move any further, here is a trailer for Monster Hunter Stories arriving in September.

In Monster Hunter Stories you take the role of a young child living in Hakum Village. Here, everyone takes the rite of passage to become a Monstie (Monster + Bestie) Rider. The demo starts you off in a forest with your friends hunting for eggs. You come across a nest and you pretend that you are taking the rite to become a Monster Rider. One of the eggs hatch and it is a baby Rathalos which is named Ratha. Ratha imprints on you and you take it back to the village. However, you get in trouble with the adults because what would happen is an adult Rathalos showed up? Fast forward, you don't get in trouble and the village chief thinks you have the potential to become a rider. That is great but trouble strikes the village when a monster called Nargacuga attacks the village!

The cut scenes and animation are AMAZING in this game. What's also amazing is the collecting of monsters. Once I found out I could collect 200 monsters, I was sold! You find eggs in Monster Dens and you bring them back to the stables and you hatch them y tapping them on the touch screen. Battles are intuitive also and pretty cool to see play out. You can choose between Power, Speed, and Technical attack. Each one trumps another and you have to guess which move the enemy is going to use. I am about 2 hours in the demo and I have been exploring and battling. So far the only monsters I have are the Aptonoth and Velociprey. If you are a fan of the Monster Hunter franchise and Pokemon, I urge you to try the demo and pick it up in September!

Monster Hunter Stories releases September 8th, 2017 on Nintendo 3DS!
